As befits the status of a flagship boat, Grand Banks was extremely proud of its premier Aleutian class 64.

At 64-feet, the Aleutian was one of the largest yachts in the Grand Banks family; with its raised pilothouse design, one of the most unique. It was also the most luxurious craft in the Grand Banks fleet, a fact that helped make this model immediately popular with those who desire exceptional quality and customization in all things.

Built by Grand Banks and designed in partnership with Tom Fexas Yacht Design, this world-class blue-water cruiser had its aesthetic roots in the Alaskan wooden boat tradition. The updated raised pilothouse profile with its dramatically flared bow and exceptional teak craftsmanship was more beautiful than ever.

Of course, the Aleutian was also the beneficiary of the 30-year plus Grand Banks reputation for delivering safety, dependability, stability and advanced technology.

With an extended cruising range and commanding pilot and navigational space, it was easy to see why this ship was a leader in its class. A fuel capacity of 2,000 gallons and a water capacity of 500 gallons means a serious cruiser could plan for long trips with ease. The typical power configuration featured a Caterpillar 3406E 800 HP diesel engine that provided a projected cruising speed of 18 knots, to a top speed of 22 knots.

Of course, the covered aft cockpit was a major Aleutian highlight. With teak decking, wide seats and a transom door that opened down to the swim platform, the area was designed with all types of entertaining possibilities in mind. The set-back flybridge with its generous seating arrangement, unobstructed visibility and potential to house all sorts of electronic equipment was also high on the Aleutian's "plus" list.

A visit to the helm was also a treat. Along with a traditional teak wheel, there was a bench settee for guests, a Stidd helm chair for the captain, and plenty of space for instrumentation and other essentials. For ease of use, lighted steps led from the helm station to the staterooms below. Additional design highlights included a teak staircase to the flybridge, watertight transom door to lazarette area and an electro-hydraulic dinghy davit.

With interiors by the award-winning A La Mer Design (renown for creating the ambiance for many of a custom megayachts), one expected to find understated elegance and practicality in equal measure. In particular, a spacious layout, high-quality carpet on the sole (a Grand Banks' interior first), a gourmet galley and five-star hotel quality finishes throughout.

Of course, the Aleutian salon was in a class all its own. Its 15' x 13' of usable space (matched by six-feet, seven-inches of headroom) means there was space for all, while its curved settee guaranteed a comfortable visit.

The staterooms provided for private retreat. Separating the two staterooms was a nine-foot square private area that can be used as a sitting room or office. Aft of the common area was the oversized master stateroom complete with head, walk-in shower and cedar-lined, walk-in closet. The guest stateroom featured a raised, queen-sized island berth. There was also a full head with separate shower. In all areas, chilled-water air conditioning with individual controls translated into comfortable all-weather cruising.

Given the size of the Aleutian, its systems required a larger-than-usual engine room. Measuring 6' x 17' and with just under six-feet of headroom, the engine space had what it takes to comfortably and safely cruise long distances.
